Trevithick is a storytelling school.

At Trevithick we have developed a powerful and effective approach to teaching writing through storytelling based on Pie Corbett’s ‘Talk for Writing’ methodology. Teaching and Learning in literacy is one of the unique features of our school. Our approach to teaching writing has had a dramatic effect on raising standards and accelerating pupil progress with 91% of our Y6 pupils achieving level 4 and 54% achieving level 5 in their writing SATs, significantly above national standards.

Trevithick was named as the country’s first ‘Storytelling School’ by Pie Corbett in 2009. We have also been selected to take part in a number of exciting national projects including, ‘Talk for writing’ with the National Literacy Strategy, ‘Teachers and TAs as Writers’ with The Department of Education’ and ‘Transforming Writing’ with the National Literacy Trust, we also achieved DfE ‘Writing School Status’ in 2010.
