A child’s first year at school is critical and our overriding aim is to ensure that all our children are given the best possible start to their education.

We recognise the importance of making the learning experience fun and encouraging every child to become an independent learner. The curriculum we offer in our reception classes is varied and carefully planned to offer stimulating learning experiences for every child. There is a strong emphasis on learning through play, including activities that are initiated by the child and others that are planned by the teacher. Within and beyond that curriculum we stress the importance of traditional values such as honesty, courtesy, respect, determination and self-discipline.

We insist on high standards in all areas and strive to ensure that all our children fulfil their potential in a positive learning environment. We take time to ensure that the individual needs of all children are identified and addressed and that their ‘next steps’ are clearly recorded and communicated to both them and their carers. Working in partnership with carers in every area is a cornerstone of our philosophy as we recognise the positive impact on a child’s progress this can have.
