At TLA our children are prepared for a rapidly changing world through the use of a wide range of computing technologies.
We strive to insure that children learn with age appropriate devices and content. Our Nursery and Reception Classes use Learnpads with lesson resources linked to their learning goals.
Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2 use iPads and Chromebooks. They learn to access content through the RMUnify single sign on service with individual usernames and passwords when appropriate.
Purple Mash allows Key Stage 1 to access, store and share documents as well as curriculum linked apps and games.
Google Classroom has been adopted for Key Stage 2. It allows the quick creation and collaboration of content between teachers and pupils.
Our Computing Lessons are split between Digital Literacy and Citizenship, Topic Linked Activities and Core Curriculum Content.
Digital Literacy and Citizenship:
We use the South West Grid for Learning (SWGfL) Digital Literacy and Citizenship lessons. These lessons are taught on the first Computing lesson of every half term.
Topic Linked Activities:
We try to link lessons when possible to the Computing Curriculum. If the Topic is The Romans for example, then the children may be asked to produce a slide presentation or fact sheet about the Romans and then present this to the class.
Core Curriculum Content:
These lessons are used to teach skills which can’t readily be linked to other subjects or topics. For example: “Design, write and debug programs that accomplish specific goals, including controlling or simulating physical systems; solve problems by decomposing them into smaller parts.”
We use a range of programmable devices such as Beebots, Makey Makey etc as well as iPad apps and Purple Mash apps to accomplish these goals.
